Typical Hořice sandstone has an unmistakable appearance. It is quartzose, fine grained with a light ochre base with numerous, yet very subtle ferrous colouring (see Figure 1). As is documented by Figures 2 to 4, the Hořice sandstone also occurs with massive evenly distributed pigmentation in the mass or in the bedding with various shades of yellow, pink up to reddish-brown.
