Description
There are three mining areas near the village of Provodín. The Provodín quarry has been closed down and the mining has been terminated. Mining is still active in the Srní quarry and its termination is planned for 2025. The sample for analysis was taken from the Okřešice quarry, which has enough reserves for another 40 years. This quarry is located west of the railroad track connecting Srní u České Lípy with Česká Lípa. The mining is carried out towards the northwest on four levels of under 5 metres in height. The sand is cohesive and is therefore mined by blasting. The mined material is transported to the processing plant in Provodín, where it is crushed, washed and then sorted. The sand quarry therefore only produces washed sand intended namely for technical applications.
