Stones, sandpits and limestone quarries in the Czech Republic

The Poříčí sand quarry is situated in a forest on a hill about 800 m southwest from the village of Poříčí near Litomyšl. The quarry consists of 3-4 storeys producing strongly weathered sandstone, which is crushed and sorted about 400 m northwest from the mining site. Geological conditions and the mining method allow production of different coloured sand depending on the mining location. The colour ranges from very light, almost white, through grey up to dark ochre.
