Stones, sandpits and limestone quarries in the Czech Republic

The large multi-storey sand quarry of Skalná is situated east of the road connecting Velký Luh with Plesná. Different coloured sand, ranging from white up to dark ochre, is mined by excavators from walls and then transported to a plant 1 km south for further processing. Here the sand is washed and sorted into grain-size fractions of 0-1, 0-2, 1-2, 2-4 and 0-4 mm. The tested sample was taken from washed sorted sand with a fraction of 0-4 mm.
