Stones, sandpits and limestone quarries in the Czech Republic

The Štenská trachyte quarry is located in a forest, on the southwestern slope of Špičák hill, near the settlement of Štenská and road No. 210 connecting the villages of Heřmanov and Úterý. From this road it is easily accessible via a short northbound turn. Trachyte blocks are mined by cutting with a wire saw or a chainsaw. Exceptionally, explosives are also used. A gross stonework production plant is located at the quarry. Part of the stone is transported to Tisová (near Domažlice) to a fine stonework production plant, where trachyte is processed into desk top stone and its surface is treated by grinding, jetting or polishing.
