Stones, sandpits and limestone quarries in the Czech Republic

This sand quarry is situated around 500 m to the east of the village of Spytihněv on the left bank of the Morava River. The raw material is quarried from below the surface of the water by a bucket excavator from a face approx. 5 m thick. From here the sand is transported by conveyor belts approx. 2 km to the treatment plant, which is situated by the road leading from Spytihněv towards Topolná. It is then washed and sorted into fractions of 0-4, 4-8, 8-16 and 11-22 mm. The treatment plant is equipped with a facility for crushing oversize fractions.
