Stones, sandpits and limestone quarries in the Czech Republic

Rožany stone quarry is situated on the edge of the forest on the western side of Taubenberg hill, very close to the Czech – German state border approx. 1 km to the northeast of the village of the same name. Rožany granite is quarried in the southern part of the site, while Šluknov syenite is extracted in the northern part. The blocks are blasted out and then transported to the nearby plant in Šluknov, where the stone is processed for coarse and refined stone production. The stone-working plant has circular and wire saws (allowing arcs to be cut) as well as machinery for dressing the surface of the stone (polishing, blasting, sanding, firing).
