Stones, sandpits and limestone quarries in the Czech Republic

This four-storey quarry is situated on the north-western face of Gutský vršek hill, to the east of the road that runs through the village of Řeka, from where there is also an easily accessible turn-off leading across the Ropičanka stream. The Řeka – Guty quarry is situated around 300 m east of the Řeka quarry. The stone lies in oblique layers up to 1.2 m thick. It is quarried using an excavator, occasionally accompanied by explosives. The stone is processed on site for rough stone production. It was also cut and polished in the past.
