Stones, sandpits and limestone quarries in the Czech Republic

This is an extensive ten-storey limestone quarry situated to the east of highway No. 315 between Leština and Hrabová. Its size and position on the slope of a hill rising some 200 m above the surrounding terrain makes it a dominant landmark, clearly visible from far and wide. The limestone is burnt in shaft furnaces near the quarry and, if necessary, the resulting calcium oxide is slaked on a hydration line.
