Stones, sandpits and limestone quarries in the Czech Republic

This large five-storey open-pit quarry is situated to the west of the village of Černý Důl. It is easily accessible from highway No. 297 by turning west near the car park in the centre of the village and south after approx. 150 m onto the road leading across the slope of the hill to the quarry. Limestone is quarried in the lower storeys of the quarry. The limestone is transported from the quarry by a unique cableway about 8 km long to the processing plant in Kunčice, where it is ground and sorted before particularly being used for the manufacture of construction materials. Limestone is not burnt or lime slaked in Kunčice.
