Stones, sandpits and limestone quarries in the Czech Republic

Sandstone is mined in a relatively small quarry located in a forest about 1.5 km east from the village of Záměl. It is difficult to access – first via an asphalt road, then on a field and forest path, which leads south from the Sladký brook from road No. 14 between Vamberk and Ústí nad Orlicí. Green glauconite sandstone is mined in the upper part of the quarry. The colour of the stone decreases while its quality increases towards to bottom of the quarry. The sandstone is bedded, which excludes mining of larger blocks. Mined stone from the quarry is transported to a stonework shop in Záměl 9, where it is further processed for fine stonework products (paving, tiling, garden architecture elements, small sculpturing products etc.).
