Stones, sandpits and limestone quarries in the Czech Republic

The Hlavačov sand quarry is located about 2 km north from Rakovník. It is accessible via an eastbound turn from road No. 229 connecting Rakovník with Lišany. Sand is mined by a loader from walls at a height of 4-5 m. The walls are situated on four levels. The quarry produces pit and washed sand with fractions of 0-4 mm. The tested sample was taken from the unwashed sand. In addition to sand, the quarry also supplies gravel of different grain-size fractions and crushed stone.
