Stones, sandpits and limestone quarries in the Czech Republic

This three-storey limestone quarry lies on the northern slope of Skalka hill, around 1 km to the southwest of the village of Mladeč, by highway No. 635 between Litovel and Loštice. It was opened in 1913 by Josef Vitoul and is currently owned by his grandson, Ing. Ladislav Vitoul. This is a traditional family firm which processes the raw material near the quarry to manufacture products used primarily in agriculture, construction, the rubber and plastic industries (filler) and in the energy industry (desulphurisation). The stone is quarried using explosives and the raw material is then crushed, ground and sorted.
